Among Us Monster: Pattern Overview

Pink crochet Among Us monster with a light blue visor, one striped yellow horn, one black horn and a yellow stitched belly patch on a light fabric surface

Project introduction

This overview introduces a free monster crochet pattern in Among Us style from Lennutas, presented for Halloween making. It is an overview only, not a full tutorial, so use it to preview construction, supplies and color changes before you begin. Start with the Original designer’s pattern and instructions for the complete pattern. The project is built as a head and body, legs, two arms, a visor, horns, a patch and dots, then assembled.

Monster Crochet Pattern PDF File

A separate print ready PDF is offered for purchase in English. It is described as having many photo tutorials and well written step by step instructions, with instant download after payment. Keep this option distinct from the free pattern on the blog. Choosing it is optional, for readers who prefer a printable format.

Materials

The designer describes the yarn used for this sample as a favorite choice for most amigurumi toys, and this monster follows that same approach. A familiar sport weight yarn is suggested as an alternate, and you are invited to try your favorite colors if you prefer a different look. Gather everything in this checklist before starting.

  • 4-ply yarn in pink, yellow, black, green, white and light blue
  • 2.3 mm crochet hook
  • Yarnart Jeans, as an alternate sport weight yarn
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Needles
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations

The pattern is written in US terms, so give each short form its US meaning before you start. The stitch abbreviations come first below. The symbols for repeats, round totals and grouped stitches are explained in prose after the list, rather than as part of that list, so each kind of note is easier to find while you work.

Two of the listed forms name taller stitches: Dc means Double crochet stitch, and Hdc means Half double crochet stitch.

  • FLO: front loop only
  • MR: magic ring (magic circle)
  • Ch: chain stitch
  • Sc: single crochet stitch

Shaping is shortened in two related forms.

  • Inc: single crochet increase
  • Dec: single crochet decrease

For the symbols, […] followed by x time tells you how many times to repeat the enclosed instructions. A figure in (…) gives the stitch count for a round. Steps shown inside {…} belong together in one stitch.

Use and credit are also covered by Lennutas by Thao Nguyen. The pattern is for personal use only, finished items made by hand may be sold in small quantities with credit to Lennutas as the designer, and copying, sharing or redistributing the pattern in part or in full is not allowed.

Monster Crochet Pattern Free

The free version is presented on the designer page, where readers are invited to save the page for later or bookmark it with Ctrl+D on Windows or Cmd+D on Mac. This section marks the start of the working pattern, with the separate pieces following in the order set out by the designer.

Head & body

The head and body form one pink piece and are not fastened off when this part ends. Work begins with Ch 20, with stitches worked on both sides of the foundation chain, then the shape is built through numbered rounds using increases and decreases. Early rounds widen the piece, plainer rounds follow, and later shaping prepares it for the legs.

Legs

The legs are not made separately at first. They continue directly from the body, so placement matters before any leg round is worked. Use pins to mark the 17th, 23rd, 47th and 53rd stitches of round 31. Those marked positions divide the continuing work and set up the right and left legs.

Right leg

The right leg continues from round 32 through round 51, with decreases shaping the leg as the rounds progress. When round 51 is complete, fasten off, pull the tail through all the front loops of that round, and weave in the ends. Stuffing starts after this leg is finished.

Left leg

For the left leg, leave a 20cm tail for sewing before joining to the 23rd stitch of round 31. The leg is worked through its own rounds to round 51 and is stuffed as you work, with stuffing ended before the final rounds. Fasten off, pull the tail through the front loops, weave in ends, and use the pink tail from the first stitch to sew the opening between the two legs.

ARMS (x2)

Make two arms in pink yarn, starting each one with a magic ring. The arms are worked in rounds with shaping, and each arm is stuffed lightly, with stuffing continued as you work. When an arm is complete, fasten off and leave a long tail so it can be sewn to the body during assembly.

Visor

The visor starts with light blue yarn and Ch 15, with stitches worked on both sides of the foundation chain. Partway through, the yarn changes to white on the stitches the designer marks, before the visor is fastened off with a long tail for sewing. Its strap is separate, made in black yarn from Ch 60, adjusted more or less until it fits around the visor, then fastened off with a long sewing tail.

Horns

Two horns are made, but they do not share the same color story. The right horn starts with yellow yarn in a magic ring, changes to pink after round 3, continues through further color changes, and uses green yarn for rounds 16 and 17. The left horn starts with black yarn, follows its own color sequence, and changes to yellow yarn for rounds 16 and 17. Both horns are fastened off with a long tail for sewing.

Patch

The patch is worked in yellow yarn from Ch 9, with stitches worked on both sides of the foundation chain, and it is fastened off with a long tail for sewing. A separate strap is made in black yarn from Ch 40, and this length can be adjusted until it fits around the patch. The strap is also fastened off with a long tail for sewing.

Dots

All three dots use green yarn and each one starts with a magic ring. The big dot begins with 6 single crochet, the medium dot with 5 single crochet, and the small dot with 4 single crochet into the ring. Each dot is fastened off with a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

Assembly brings the separate pieces onto the head, body and legs in set positions. Sew the visor to the head from round 7 to round 17 and its strap around the visor edge. Sew the arms to the body from round 22, the patch to the body from round 21 with its strap around its edge, the horns on the head from round 5, and the dots on the legs. Finished monsters can be shared with the designer on Instagram @lennutas.

Free PDF File

A free pattern PDF file is also offered through a download button on the designer page, but that content is described as for Close Friends only.
