Project introduction

This page is a pattern overview of the Dinosaur Amigurumi by StringyDingDing, and not the pattern itself. The complete row-by-row instructions are published in the Original designer’s pattern and instructions. Here you will get a clear picture of what the project involves, the supplies the designer lists, how the pieces are built and assembled, and how to access the free web version or the paid PDF, so you can decide whether it fits your plans.
The design is a cute, easy amigurumi dinosaur worked in US crochet terms. The pattern revolves around a Main Color, which is simply the color you choose for the body. The designer shows a green version and a white version, and you can pick any main color you like. The spikes, legs and spots can use any colors too, while the cheeks are made in pink, giving you plenty of room to play with color.
What makes this little dinosaur charming is the combination of simple shapes: a rounded body worked in the round, a row of spikes in different sizes along the back, four stubby legs, flat circular spots on the sides and optional pink cheeks at the mouth. It is a friendly, huggable size for a toy shelf or a gift, and the assembly order in the pattern keeps the finishing steps organized.
Pattern format and preparation
The pattern is published as a free crochet pattern on the designer’s website, so you can read the full instructions there at no cost. A printable PDF version is also offered as a paid purchase. The free web version and the paid PDF are separate options: the free listing does not make the PDF free, and the paid PDF does not affect the free web access.
The designer lists these supplies for the project:
- 4mm crochet hook
- 4/Medium weight yarn in any colors you like, plus pink for the cheeks
- 9mm safety eyes
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stuffing
- Stitch markers in different colors, used in the body instructions to mark the eye positions
Construction follows a clear order. The body is worked in the Main Color starting from a magic ring, with markers placed to position the eyes before the 9mm safety eyes are added. Stuffing goes in as the body closes, and the finished body is sewn shut and set aside. The five spikes are made separately in any colors, in different sizes, then pinned on in the order shown before sewing.
Four stubby legs are worked in the Main Color, lightly stuffed before closing, then pinned and sewn in place. The spots are small flat circles: four small ones, two on each side, and two larger ones, one on each side, all sewn on. The two optional pink cheeks are pinned at the sides of the mouth area and sewn. For exact rounds and placement, follow the designer’s page.
The designer rates this pattern Easy, which makes it a friendly choice for a first amigurumi or a relaxed weekend project. Keep your tension even so the stuffing does not show through, and check the assembly photos on the designer’s page as you pin the pieces.
